4RM

Main page

4RM is a division of the 1AK-GROUP holding company that combines the manufacture of retail equipment, the development of digital platforms, and an export network. Its structure includes the 4RM Systems plant (Vitebsk), the 4RM Refrigeration plant (Stolbtsy), the digital division 4RM Tech, and the sales division 4RM Trading.

4RM has evolved from a manufacturer of retail equipment for stores into a developer of a scalable digital ecosystem. The 4RM Systems plant (Vitebsk) produces shelving, checkout machines, self-service checkout areas, and parcel lockers. The 4RM Refrigeration plant (Stolbtsy) specializes in refrigeration equipment. All elements are integrated into a digital control system—from the hardware layer to analytics and UX.

A Digital Ecosystem, Not Just a Set of Solutions

The concept implemented by 4RM goes beyond the production of equipment for the store’s sales floor. Every device—from the checkout to the Parcel lockers—becomes an element of a digital ecosystem. In this approach, software is not secondary but defining: it connects retail equipment, analytics, customer behavior, and business objectives into a unified architecture.

The key transformation lies in product logic. Whereas checkout machines and scales used to be standalone devices, today they function as “digital nodes” capable of recognizing, responding, and integrating.

The STEMMA Modular AI Platform: The Core of Smart Retail

Developed by the 4RM IT team, the STEMMA platform has become the center of the ecosystem. It serves as the base for products based on neural networks and computer vision technologies, operating in key areas:

STEMMA Recognition – the module automatically identifies products based on images at the checkout or at the self-service checkout. This minimizes human error, reduces losses from incorrect scanning, and prevents some types of fraud.

STEMMA Stock – intelligent shelf monitoring and out-of-stock detection. It uses video streams and computer vision algorithms to instantly detect display irregularities, missing SKUs, and under-stocked shelves.

STEMMA Customer (Traffic) – this module provides aggregated data on store visitors. The information is used in an anonymized form and allows for a precise understanding of the audience structure and traffic dynamics. The system enables the analysis of data for a selected period and the creation of a comprehensive picture of visitor behavior.

STEMMA Customer (Heat Map) – a computer vision and behavioral analytics module designed to track shoppers’ movements throughout the sales floor and generate interactive heat maps. It helps identify underutilized space, adjust promotional placements, and enhance conversion zones.

STEMMA Customer (Queue Monitoring) – an AI module for monitoring crowds at checkout counters and service points. It estimates queue length, determines wait times, and suggests automatically opening additional checkout lanes to reduce congestion and improve service levels.

STEMMA Worker – a system that provides objective data on staff performance and infrastructure usage.  The AI module detects when an employee leaves their workstation at the checkout, deli counter, or information desk, records the duration of their absence, and can notify a manager.

STEMMA Metrics – A unified analytics center that consolidates data from all modules into a user-friendly interface for executives, analysts, and operations managers; the real-time dashboard displays key performance indicators for the retail location.

Infrastructure: checkouts, scales, parcel lockers

Digital architecture is not limited to stores. 4RM offers software and equipment for managing the entire checkout and logistics infrastructure:

SOVA – Software for managing and monitoring self-service checkout scales with integration into the retail infrastructure.

LOCCA – a software platform for managing parcel lockers, integrated with logistics and retail systems. It provides real-time tracking of locker status, parcel distribution, loading schedule management, and integration with logistics platforms. It supports flexible interaction scenarios with couriers, customers, and warehouses. It improves the reliability and speed of operations in the click&collect system.

Retail is becoming part of urban logistics: automated pickup points, flexible delivery scenarios, and staff-less stores—these are not the future, but solutions that 4RM is already implementing in PoC (Proof of Concept) projects.
